Study of the value of wet corn bran through digestibility trial with sheep
Abstract in English
This work was carried out to evaluate the nutritive value of wet corn bran as ruminant feed through digestibility trial with sheep. The treatments were composed of levels of corn bran (0,34 and 66%, dry basis). The basal diet was balanced with corn silage and soybean meal, to give 12% CP, dry basis. The experiment was carried out at the Estação Experimental Central of the Instituto de Zootecnia at Nova Odessa, SP. The statistical design was randomized block design with four replications, repetead twice in time (Trials I and II). Twelve castred male sheeps were used in each trial. The joint analysis showed no trial x treatment interaction for crude protein and crude fiber digestibility, both showing a positive linear effect with increasing levels of wet corn bran in the diet. The digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter, ether extract, nitrogen free extract, gross energy and TDN showed trial x treatment interactions. Dry matter digestibility showed, in both trials, a positive linear effect with increasing wet corn bran level, but the equations for each trial were different. Organic matter, ether extract, nitrogen free extract energy and TDN showed quadratic effects with the increasing levels of wet corn bran, also with different equations for each trial. As a consequence of differences between trails the estimated TDN value of the wet corn bran was lower in trial I than in trial II (68,0 vs. 87,6%). Part of this difference could be explained by the differences in the proximal analysis of the wet corn bran used in the two trials, particularly in relation to the nitrogen free extract fraction
