Calcium and boron levels and its interaction affecting the development of root system, the mineral composition and tie vigor of Rangpur lime tree [Cirus limonia (L.) OSBECK], under controlled conditions
Abstract in English
The purpose of this work was to study the effect of calcium and boron levels and of the interaction Ca x B on the development of the root system, on the mineral composition and on the vigor of the Rangpur lime tree (Citrus limonia L. Osbeck) cultivated in greenhouse. Seedlings from a nursey of the Lageado Experimental Farm, were used. The were grown in 31 pots with nutritive solutions having calcium concentrations of 50; 100; 200 and 400ppm and boron of 0,0625; 0,125; 0,25 and 0,5ppm. The experiment was installed in a greenhouse of the Soi1 Science Department, College of Agronomy, Campus of Botucatu - UNESP, State of São Paulo. The experimental design was in a randomized blocks with 16 treatments assigned in a factorial test. The interpretation of the study was done after 5-months of the plants development, when the following parameters was analised: dry matter weight of roots, trunks and leaves, root length, trunk diameter, foliar area, number of 1eaves and plant chemical analysis, for the determination of the nutrients nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur and boron. The 0,5ppm boron dose in the solution led to the longest length of the roots; boron showed antagonism with the nutrients P, S, K and Ca in the trunk, and with K and Ca in the leaves. The 200ppm calcium dose in the solution promoted the highest increase in dry matter weight of roots, trunks and leaves, as well as in root length, trunk diameter, foliar area, and number of leaves. Calcium promoted the accumulation of all nutrients in the roots, trunks and leaves, and expressed antagonism for the nutrients N, P and S in the roots; N, P, Mg and B in the trunks and N, P and B in the leaves; it also showed synergism for the nutrients B in the roots, K in the trunks and, K and Mg in the leaves; it didn't after the concentration for K and Mg in the roots and S in the trunks and leaves. There wasn't any effect of the interaction Ca x B for any of those evaluated parameters. The average results of concentration and nutrients accumulation observed are presented in decreasing order as follows: - Roots: N (1.24% - 19.28mg), Ca (0.42% - 7.50mg), K (0.40% - 6.54mg), P (0.11% - 1.65mg), S (0.08% - 1.22mg), Mg (0.04% - 0.66mg) and B (20.67ppm - 34.16ug); - Trunks: N (1.67% - 93.41mg), K (0.91% - 57.32mg), Ca (0.60% - 39.58mg), P (0.21% - 11.40mg), S (0.12% - 6.71mg), Mg (0.10% - 5.57mg) and B (20.02ppm - 109.57ug); - Leaves: N (3.01% - l56.30mg), K (2.67% - 145.44mg), Ca (0.97% - 61.93mg), S (0.29% - 15.14mg), P (0.20% - 10.01mg), Mg (0.13% - 7.05mg) and B (55.51ppm - 279.35ug).
