Title in English
The bioactivity of dry conditions applied herbicides in two soil types, on sugarcane (Saccharum spp).
Abstract in English
With the objective of studing the herbicides behavior applied in dry soil condition and to verify particularities of its agroecossystem dynamics, four field trials and one greenhouse trial were conducted in Piracicaba-SP, Horticulture Department. Superior Agriculture School "Luiz de Queiroz", São Paulo University, Brazil. The field trials were carried out on a Yellow Red Podzolic sandy soil and on a Dark Red Latosol clay soil. These field trials were repeated for two years. In green-house. samples of two soil types were applied with the same treatments of field tria1s and submited to different periods of dry weather conditions. The herbicide treatments on sandy soil in rates or active ingredients were: tebuthiuron at 0.400, 0.800 and 1,600; terbacil at 0.200, 0.400 and 0.800; and hexazinone at 0.225, 0.450 and 0.900. On clay were: tebuthiuron at 0.600, 1,200 and 2,400; terbacil at 0.400, 0.800 and 1,600; and hexazinone at 0.315, 0.630 and 1,260. The experimental design adopted consist of randomized blocks with split plots, constituted of five and four replications, for the two years respectively. Soils samples were collected at different periods in four soil deeps ate 0 to 5, 5 to 10, 10 to 15 and 15 to 20 cm. In greenhouse trial, the soils samples in were submited to bioassays with cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). The same treatments were applied on top soils samples in greenhouse controlled conditions. In this case. the treated soil was left to dry for 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days, dates when bioassays were installed. Datas of fresh weight and dry weight of the test plants cutted at 14 days after emergence were collected. The results obtained allowed the conclusion that tebuthiuron, terbacil and hexazinone herbicides, applied on dry soil conditions, persisted to the first rainfall event, when the herbicides showed its bioactivity and phytotoxicity on the test plants. In greenhouse trial, all treatments on the two soils were active at 180 days after application, the last bioassay installed. In field trials, the climatic and edafic conditions caused changes on the herbicides persistence. The tebuthiuron persisted active to 207 and 195 days, on sandy soils, and 272 and 195 days on clay soiI, on the two years respectively. Tebuthiuron was leached meanly at high rates. Soils samples collected from the leveI 0 to 5 em affected drastically the test plants. Terbacil, according to the test plant sensibility, persisted for short time. It leached mainly at higher rates. Hexazinone showed the highest mobility leaching faster to the limit soil deep sampled at high rates. For alI treatments the leaching was dependent of the used rate, the high rates treatments showes higher leaching. The global behavior tendency of the herbicides tendency was the same in both years. The tebuthiuron, terbacil and hexazinone herbicides can be used for autum-winter applications, because they show its bioactivity after remain in dry soil conditions, the frequent weather in São Paulo State in this epoch.
