Title in English
Prediction of yield of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Abstract in English
With the purpose to present a model for the prediction of yield of common bean, a universal model was developed in which the different phases of the agricultural system (soil-plant-atmosphere) are considered. The following input data are requested by the model: field capacity, permanent wilting point, effective rooting depth, data from chemical soil analysis, duration of the development stages, crop coefficient, leaf area index, latitude, insolation, mean air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and Class A pan evaporation. The water deficits and excesses were estimated using the procedure for the calculation of the water balance proposed by Thornthwaite & Mather, considering that root growth occurs following three basic types of curves: a sigmoid (with three variations), a potential and a linear equation, the soil water storage being estimated by three different methods. Considering the results of the soil water and the bean yield estimates, it was verified that there was no difference between the methods. It was observed that non-consideration of the effect of the chemical attributes relative to the soil leads to a yield superestimation. It was concluded that the universal model is applicable for its purpose.
