Statistic characterization of the soil hydraulic conductivit
Abstract in English
The saturated soil hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) is one of the most relevant variables for studies concerning water and solutes movement in soil. Its determination in laboratory and in field gives results with high dispersion, which probably indicate that this variable does not have a symmetric distribution, making it difficult to choose a representative value and, for this reason, justifying a study to characterize it betel The adequacy of normal, lognormal, gamma and beta probability density functions was tested in order to describe and to indicate position and variability measures to be adopted for the area. The assay constituted of determining the Ksat by using the constant permeameter method in three undisturbed soils samples (LVAd, LVdf and RQo), collected in São Paulo State mid-west. The Ksat was determined three times for each sample and the arithmetic mean was considered. The statistical analysis consisted of a position and dispersion measure study, of possible outliers, KoImogorov-Smimov test and graphic analysis for verification for fitting the data to the distributions, robust techniques of comparisons of models. The Ksat presented high variability; yet, it did not show values that could be considered as outliers. The non-normality in the results distribution and a fitting to lognormaI, gamma and beta distributions were proved. Amongst the Iognormal probability density, the Ksat was the most indicated one to describe the distribution of the results and the Uniformly Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimators method was used to calculate of position measures (mean and median) and the variability (variance, standard deviation and coefficient of variation). As aIternative, the possibility of estimating the Ksat values linked to the respective leveIs of probability of happening according to this distribution was presented. This fact would allow associating this probability leveI to estimates of Ksat measures – depend.
