Foram determinados, com auxílio da função ?Spline?, os pontos de inflexão das curvas características de umidade obtidas de diversas posições dos perfis dos solos Latossolo Roxo distrófico, série Sertãozinho e série Luiz de Queiroz, utilizando os dados apresentados por SCARDUA (1972) e FREIRE (1975). Realizou-se estudos de correlações entre os teores de umidade na capacidade de campo, no ponto de inflexão, à 1/3 atm, à 1/10 atm e à 0,06 atm. Os resultados mostraram que para os solos Latossolo Roxo distrófico e série Sertãozinho, o grau de umidade no ponto de inflexão fornece uma razoável estimativa de suas respectivas capacidades de campo. Para a série Luiz de Queiroz, a capacidade de campo é melhor representada pela retenção a 1/3 atm. Observou-se também que o potencial de matriz correspondente a capacidade de campo varia com a posição considerada no perfil, sendo essa variação dependente da uniformidade textural do mesmo.

The flex point of soil moisture retention curves were determined by means of the spline function. These curves were based on data previously published by SCÁRDUA (1972) and FREIRE (1975) and are representative of a dystrophic ?Latosol Roxo? profile and ?Sertãozinho? and ?Luiz de Queiroz? series. The study consisted mainly of a study to determine the correlation between moisture retention at field capacity and those at the flex point, 1/3 atm, 1/ 10 atm and 0,06 atm, respectively. The analysis of the results obtained showed that for the dystrophic ?Latosol Roxo? and Sertãozinho series moisture content at the flex point of the water retention curve is a reasonable estimate of their respective field capacities, whereas for Luiz de Queiroz series retentions at 1/3 atm appeared to be a better estimate. It was also observed that the matric potential at field capacity varies with the position considered in the profile and that this variation depends on the textural uniformity of the profile.
