Foi efetuado um ensaio de competição entre adubos nitrogenados fisiologicamente ácidos, em vasos, com a finalidade principal de se verificar o comportamento da· ureia frente ao nitrato de amônio, sulfato de amônio, ureia + enxofre , este sob duas formas: sulfato de potássio e sulfato de cálcio. A terra utilizada era de tabuleiro proveniente de Rio Largo, Alagoas, Brasil e o ensaio ·foi conduzido na Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz, da Universidade de São Paulo, localizada em Piracicaba, Brasil. A planta teste foi o milho (Zea mays L.) cv Piranão. Os parâmetros de avaliação foram produção de matéria seca e absorção de nitrogênio. Resumindo, pode-se concluir que a dose de 240 kg N/ha foi excessiva em relação à de 120 kg N/ha. Doses menores que esta última devem ser experimentadas. No que concerne a produção de matéria seca, o nitrato de amônio superou os demais, na dose de 120 kg N/ha, igualando-se a eles no que se refere à disponibilidade de N, baseada no acúmulo desse nutriente nas plantas. É de se esperar que a ureia, convenientemente aplicada no solo, seja tão boa fonte de N quanto os demais fertilizantes nitrogenados.

Efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers to corn plant (Zea mays, L.)

This work was carried out in pots in order to study the fertil izer effect of urea in face of the ammon1um nitrate, ammonium sulphate and urea plus sulphur , being this last one under two forms: potassium sulphate and calcium sulphate. A tabuIeiro soil, from Rio Largo, State of Alagoas, Brazil, was used. The experiment took place at the Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz, of São Paulo, located in Piracicaba, State of Brazil. Corn plant (Zea mays L.) c.v. Piranão was used as test plant. The evaluation parameters were production of dry matter and nitrogen absorption. ln what concerns to the dry matter production, the ammon1um nitrate surpassed ai I the others in the rate of 120 kg N/ha whi le all of them showed to produce the some effect in what concerns to the nitrogen availabil ity based in the accumulation of this nutrient in the plants. One can expected that urea, when conveniently app I i ed to the soil, will prove to be a good source of n itrogen as any other nitrogen fertilizer tested.
