Effect of the sewage sludge on the sugar cane productivity and quality
Abstract in English
The objective of this research was to study the effect of sewage sludge on the sugar cane productivity and quality. The treatments were: 1 - Control; 2 - Mineral fertilization with NPK (5-24-24) at 400 kg/ha new plantings and NPK (19-10-19) at 400 kg/ha for the stalk plantations; 3 - Mineral-organic fertilization consisting of sewage sludge complemented with mineral fertilizers to the levels of the nutrients corresponding the former treatments; 4 - 4 tons. sewage sludge/ha + K+; 5 - 8 tons. sewage sludge/ha + K+; 6 - 16 tons. sewage sludge/ha + K+; 7 - 32 tons. sewage sludge/ha. The K+ complementation in treatments 4 to 6 was performed with KCl up to the level of treatment 2. The following agroindustrial parameters were evaluated: Pol, Brix, Reducing Sugars (R.S.), Fiber, Moisture and yield as well as the N, P2O5 and K2O contents in the sugar cane juice. According to the results obtained, it was concluded that: the use of sewage sludge is technically for sugar-cane; the use of sewage sludge and and mineral - organic fertilizer resulted in a reduction in Pol and Brix, but the purity was maintained; the levels of the P2O5 in the juice were lower than ideal for clarification; there was no significant differences in yield, for new plantings, between treatments. For the stalk sugar-cane the residual effect showed the best results, however, for the low doses of the sewage sludge, the re-application presented some advantages.
