Abstract in Portuguese
Agricultural suitability of lands of the state of Minas Gerais: evaluation and adequacy
Abstract in English
This paper aimed at to complete the Land Evaluation series in the brazilian states, initiated by the SUPLAN, for the State of Minas Gerais. From 1982 those Works have been incorporated by the SNLCS/EMBRAPA, actually CNPS/EMBRAPA. ln arder to have this study done in na homogeneous basis it was decided to make a compilation of various soil maps, with updated legend, for the whole State at the scale of 1:1,000,000. This scale correspond to the major part of the above mentioned series. The basic materiais used for this study were originated by the natural resources surveys done by RADAMBRASIL Project and complemented with the Works done by CNPS. The main soil classes present in the State of Minas Gerais were Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo (Oxisols, 25%), Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro (Oxisols, 18%), Cambissolo (Inceptisols, 18%), Podzólico Vermelho-Amarelo (Ultisols and Alfisols, 10%) and Podzólico Vermelho-Escuro (Ultisols and Alfisols, 10%). These soils present agricultural suitabilities which varied from Good for crops to Marginal for forestry, taking into account three technological levels. The lands of Minas Gerais State showed high requirement for fertilizers and amendments (F3, 75% > , low erodibility (C1, 33%) and strong impediment for mechanization (M4, 37%).
