A avaliação da eficiência das práticas de controle das perdas de solo e da produção de sedimentos foi feita em uma pequena bacia hidrográfica de primeira ordem, que vem sendo utilizada como área experimental de conservação do solo na Fazenda Ipanema - CENEA (Iperó, SP). O método utilizado foi o da aplicação, à Equação Universal de Perdas de Solo (WISCHMEIER e SMITH, 1960) dos valores locais dos fatores determinantes da erosão e a comparação dos resultados, com os limites aceitáveis de perdas de solo estabelecidos por LOMBARDI e BERTONI (1975) para o solo que ocorre naquela bacia hidrográfica (Umbriortox típico) e com os limites toleráveis para a produção de sedimentos de Kanerva e Ports (SILVA, 1978). A análise dos fatores que influem sobre a erosão e o estudo da sua interação permitiram as seguintes conclusões: nas condições estudadas, as perdas de solo estão aquém do limite tolerável, a produção de sedimentos não deve provocar assoreamento da represa e o terraceamento é indispensável, apenas, para evitar o transporte dos sedimentos para a bacia hidráulica; mas o controle da erosão poderia ser assegurado por medidas menos dispendiosas, como o cultivo em nível.

Evaluation of soil losses in a small watershed (Fazenda Ipanema - Iperó, SP.)
Abstract in English
The effectiveness of soil loss control practices were estimated for a watershed which has been used as a soil conservation experimental area on Fazenda Ipanema -CENEA (Iperó, SP). All over the studied area the soil is a typic Umbriorthox and the method used included the following steps: (a) application of the local values for erosion determinant factors to the Universal Soil - Loss Equation (WISCHMEIER & SMITH, 1960); (b) comparison of the soil loss with the soil loss acceptable limit (LOMBARDI & BERTONI, 1975); (c) comparison of the erosion losses with the Kanerva and Ports’ tolerance limits for sediment production (SILVA, 1978). The analysis of the factors which influence the soil losses and the examination of their interaction has led to the following conclusion: so far, soil loss in beneath tolerance limit, sediment production does not cause dam silting and terracing is necessary only to prevent sediment from being carried to the reservoir, but erosion could be controlled through less expensive means, as contour farming.
