Title in English
Development of Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden in two low fertility soils in Angatuba-SP
Abstract in English
This study was conducted to verify the possible causes for the different productivity obtained from 5-year-old commercial plantation of Eucalyptus grandis planted in two soils occurring in the Angatuba municipality, SP, namely a Red Yellow Latosol dystrophic, sandy and a Quartz sandy soil. Wood yield was evaluated for both soils and composition with the nutrient status of the plants by means of foliar analysis and wood basic density. Both soils were similar as to their mineralogical characteristics and wood yield was associated with organic matter content, cation exchange capacity and clay content for both soils, but yield was 20% higher in the Red Yellow Latosol. Leaf boron and copper content were higher in the plants grown on Latosol where calcium content was higher in those grown on the Quartz sandy soil. Wood basic density was however similar for both soils.
