FOLHA DE BANANEIRA

The banana leaf plant utilization as substrate for edible mushrooms cultivation (pleurotus spp.)
Abstract in English
The great production of banana fruit in Brazil gives rise to excessively quantity of agriculture wastes include the banana leaf whose due to it lignocellulosic composition is difficult to degradate and could cause phytosanitary problems to the banana cultivation . Aiming the making use of this waste, the present study had for objective to verify the feasibility of use it as substrate without any other components or as one the substrate mixture components for the Pleurotus spp., cultivation comparing the results of productivity with those obtained from the wheat straw and to determine the chemical composition for the fruit bodies. The species Pleurotus sp. "Florida", Pleurotus ostreatoroseus and Pleurotus sajor-caju were inoculated on wheat grains and after colonization were spawned in the following soaked and pasteurized substrates: banana straw, wheat straw, sugarcane bagasse added on banana straw (50:50) and corn cob added on banana straw (70:30). After spawned the substrates were conditioned in polyethylene bags ( 20x30 cm), closed, and incubated in a cultivation room without illumination, at 24±1°C and with an average relative humidity of 90%. On the frutification period, the bags were opened and the illumination (12h/day) and exhaustion control were effected. The total cultivation period established was 100 days. The results, obtained have shown that is feasible the use of banana plant leaf as substrate for Pleurotus spp. cultivation. This substrate presented for all studied species, the highest average for biological efficiency , being the values near 100% and lower cultivation periods were found for the species Pleurotus ostreatoroseus and Pleurotus sp. "Florida". The results have shown that the kind of utilized substrate in cultivation has influence on bodies frutification chemical composition mainly in the protein and mineral contents
