Studies and analysis of the effects of the calcium on the initial growth of the hibrid Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis cultivated in vitro
Abstract in English
The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of the calcium on the initial growth of an Eucalyptus urophylla and Eucalyptus grandis clone cultivated in vitro. Six treatments were defined with four repetitions each with evaluations at 0,7th , 14th, 21st, 28th and 35th days of culture. The basic culture medium was JADS with 0,0, 2,5,7,5,10,0 and 15,0mM of calcium. In order to study the effect of the calcium concentration, fresh and oven dry weight; shoot number and nutrient content were determined. The analysis of the results allowed to draw the following conclusions: i) calcium concentrations caused different plant responses, determining different shoot numbers, homogenity and oven dry weight, varying with the time of cultivation; ii) calcium concentration changed the nutrient content according of the time cultivation and keeping nutrition of the plants; iii) high calcium concentration were not toxic for the plants. Culture medium without calcium caused severe deficiency in the plant; iv) 21st day evaluation showed the best result for oven dry weight, number and homogenity of shoots as well as for nutrient absorption; v) concentrations higher than 7,5 mM of calcium could let the plants achieve new growth and development.
