Abstract in Portuguese
A casca mediana possui raios muitos largos e muitas células pétreas.
Title in English
Morpho-anatomical study of wood, bark and leaf of two vicarious varieties of Sclerolobium paniculatum Vogel (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae) from forest and cerrado
Abstract in English
This work examines the morpho-anatomical features of the wood, bark and leaves of two vicarious varieties of Sclerolobium paniculatum Vogel (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae): rubiginosum ( from forest) and subvelutinum (from cerrado). The studies were carried out in samples taken from five trees of each variety, collected in the Ecological Reserve from Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Brasília-DF, Brazil). The samples were analyzed in both qualitative and quantitative aspects, by using usual technics of preparing and measuring. The wood of the studied varieties shows the following anatomical characteristics: axial parenchyma paratracheal vasicentric, scanty; pores diffusely distributed, oval to circular in section, solitary or in multiple of six: simple perforation plate; appendices sometimes present in one or both ends; alternate intervessel pits, from polygonal to oval shape; homocellular rays, predominantely uniseriate and often with siliceous concretions; libriform fibres sometimes intrusives. The analysis showed that the variety of the cerrado's wood compared to the forest ones has the following differential characteristics: shorter and narrower vesseles and less frequent by area; narrower intervessel and ray vessel pits; wider rays; larger fibres, and with thicker wall; higher basic density and wall fraction. The inner bark in forest and cerrado varieties is well developed and has very fibrous hard bast; libriform fibres, sieve elements incospicuous; homogencous rays mostly uniseriate. The middle bark has very wide rays and several stone cells. The outer bark has acumulated layers of periderm; the phellem is rich in stone cells. It was not noticed structural differences between the barks from forest and cerrado. The leaves are compound, alternate, paripinate and the rachis is very pubescent. Opposite; very pubescent, assimetric leaflets, with entire margin; camptodromus eucamptodromus venation. The epidermis are unistratified; simple and unicellular trichomes; paracitic stomata. The mesophyll is dorsiventral; larger veins abundant in mechanical tissve. The comparative analysis showed that the variety from cerrado has shorter leaves, smaller leaflets and with greater scleorophylly index, smaller epidermic cells, more abundant pubescence on the abaxial surface, wider cuticle, higher stomatal frequency, and wider mesophyll. Though structurally similar, the varieties show many quantitative differential characteristics probably due to the influences of the enviroment where those plants grow.
