Evaluation of growth ano essential oil yield and quality Eucalyptus citriodora provenances
Abstract in English
The aim of the present work was to evaluate growth, yield and quality of the essential oil of Eucalyptus citriodora lt was compared several provenances originated from the north (16°00 a 20°00S) and form the south (23°30 a 31°43S) of Queensland State, Australia, among themselves and to local races which were planted in Brazil for essential oil production. lt was also proposed to simplify the methodology of the evaluation criteria for essencial oil yield in E citriodora. Evaluations were carried out for: survival, forking, tree growth (height and diameter), biomass production (twigs suitable or non-suitable for distillation), yield and quality of essential oil. The provenance group originated from the North of Australia showed the highest growth averages, biomass production, essential oil yield and quality. ln general, the Southem Australian provenances and the local races responded in a similar way. The families from the provenance originated in the Southem Australia and the local races formed a separata group from the Northem provenances. Probably, the tested local races were originated from Southem Australian seed sources. Correlation among the phenotypic variables and the essential oil yield and quality was not found. Therefore, it was concluded that studies on essential oil must include not only the phenotypic evaluations, but the yield and quality of the oil either.
