PRESERVAÇÃO DA MADEIRA

Non pressure preservative treatment of round fence posts of Pinus caribaea Morelet var hondurensis Bar et Golf
Abstract in English
The preservative treatment by non-pressure methods for round fence posts of Pinus caribaea var hondurensis was investigated. The wood used for the present study was obtained from the first thinning exploitation of a reforestation. The sap displacement method, also called trough or barrel method, for green wood and the cold soaking or steeping method for dry wood were studied. The waterborne preservatives CCA (Chromated Copper Arsenate), CCB (Chromated Copper Borate) and FCAP (Fluor Chrome Arsenate Phenol) were tested. The efficiency of the two preservative treatments and the three preservatives was evaluated by means of penetration, retention and distribution of the active ingredients in the wood. A test plot will be installed to determine the durability of the fence posts in service conditions. Three consecutive treatments with the same treating solution were carried out. These treating solutions were chemically analised to verify if there were any changing of the rate of active ingredients and the pH value. The two treating methods are possible from the technical point of view for the FCAP preservative, and are not indicated for the CCA preservative. The CCB preservative may be used preferably for the sap displacement method. Some chemical changes in the rate of active ingredients and the pH value of the treating solutions were observed. These changes were more significant for the CCA preservative. For the FCAP preservative practically no changes have been observed.
