O presente trabalho envolve estudos da dispersão anemocórica de sementes de Chorisia speciosa St. Hil. em uma floresta natural, situada na Reserva Estadual de Bauru, pertencente ao Instituto Florestal - Coordenadoria de Recursos Naturais, da Secretaria da Agricultura do Estado de São Paulo. Para tanto, foram localizadas e marcadas 5 árvores matrizes representativos da população existente a uma distância mínima de 620 m uma das outras, retirando-se os frutos das demais árvores da mesma espécie que ocorriam na área. Ao redor de cada uma das árvores marcadas foram coloca das 24 armadilhas de 1 m₂ de área, para coletar as sementes, obedecendo 4 rumos diferentes (norte, sul, leste e oeste), seguindo as distâncias a 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 e 160 m, para cada rumo. As sementes foram coletadas a intervalos de 15 dias, a partir do mês de setembro, início da deiscência dos frutos, até o mês de novembro e submetidas aos seguintes procedimentos: - contagem das sementes por árvore e por armadilha; - pesagem das sementes e determinação do seu teor de umidade (%), por árvore e por armadilha; - análise do poder germinativo das sementes (%) por árvore e por armadilha. Os dados de dispersão obtidos foram analisados com o auxílio de um delineamento fatorial em parcelas subdivididas. A análise dos resultados obtidos possibilitou as seguintes conclusões: - A dispersão das sementes deu-se em um período de 2 meses. Observou-se um decréscimo das quantidades de sementes da árvore matriz até a distância de 160 m, e uma tendência à dispersão de maior quantidade de sementes nas armadilhas dispostas nas direções Norte e Oeste. Ficou evidente que o padrão de dispersão das sementes em função da distância foi diferente para as diversas épocas. A quantidade de sementes coletadas também decresceu com a distância da árvore matriz e a umidade das mesmas decresceu com o decorrer das épocas. A germinação variou com a época de captura, direção das armadilhas e com as diferentes distâncias da árvore matriz; com um decréscimo no decorrer das épocas, acréscimo com a distância das árvores matrizes e acréscimo para a direção Sul. Em função da distância atingida pelas sementes dessa espécie evidencia-se que a ocupação de clareiras na sucessão secundária envolve em média uma área maior do que 8,0 hectares

The objective of this work was to study the wind dispersion of Chorisia speciosa St. Hil. seeds in a natural forest of the Reserva Estadual de Bauru - Instituto Florestal da Coordenadoria de Recursos Naturais da Secretaria da Agricultura do Estado de São Paulo. With relation to the local conditions in terms of distribution of the Chorisia speciosa St. Hil., five trees in the above mentioned reserve were selected and marked to be used as models for observation, with a minimum spacing of 620 m among thern. In order to avoid the effects of the remaining trees, their fruits were harwested before ripening. Seed traps made up of plastic screen and wood frame in the dimensions of 0.1 x 1.0 x 1.0 m at a distance of 0.2m above the ground were distributed 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 m from the selected trees in the cardinal directions (North, South, East and West). A total of five seed harvests were carried out. These operations took place every 15 days, from September 9^th to November 9^th of 1985. For each seed harvest, the seeds were evaluated by traps and by trees according to: number, weight, moisture and germination (%). The analyses of seed number by trap and by tree, were carried out using a split plot factorial design. However estatistical analyses for seed weight, moisture and germination (%) were not possible due to the abscence of seeds in some traps. The analysis of the results allowed the following conclusions to be drawn: - Seed dispersion tool place during a two month period. There was a registered decrease in the quantities of seeds of the mother tree up to a distance of 160 m, and a tendency for the dispersion of a larger quantity of seeds in traps set up in the North or West. There pattern of seeds in function of distance for the different seasons. - Seed quantity also decreased according to distance from the mother tree and seed humidity decreased form season to season. Germination varied according to period collection, trap direction and to different directions from the mother tree with a decrease from season to season, an increase with the distance from the mother tree and an increase for the South. - In view of the distance reached by seeds of a tree this species it is evident that the occupation of disturbed area in the secondary succession on an average involve an area greater than 8.0 hectares.
