Title in English
Effects of different irrigation levels and water deficits on bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) yield
Abstract in English
Bean is a worldwide item in human provisions, traditionally incorporated to the feed habits of the Brazilian population. Low productivity in bean crops is due to inadequate management practices, seed quality and lack of irrigation, where natural rains are not regularly available. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the sensitivity of a bean crop to water deficits during its growth and reproductive periods, based on final yield and productive parameters. The knowledge of these productive parameters is the theoretical foundation to select and to evaluate water management criteria, focusing on higher economic yields with less water. With the results obtained, it was possible to conclude that bean crop is sensitive to water deficits, compared with full irrigated and non-deficits plots. It was noticed a significant effect of the total irrigation depth on the final yield, number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod. Water deficit can not be established during growth and reproductive periods, without resulting significant reductions on the bean yield, that will result to low incomes to farmers and low production of food
