Irrigation management using simulations crop models CROPGRO and ceres
Abstract in English
Two applications of simulation crop models in irrigation management were evaluated. ln the first evaluation, the codes in the CROPGRO model were changed to allow the model giving practical information on management of center pivot irrigation systems. The modified model takes into account the number of days that a center pivot requires to complete one revolution. Different water management regimes for center pivot systems at three different capacities of water application were evaluated for dry bean in the State of Paraná, using net return as an objective criterion. The management regimes consisted of six different irrigation thresholds, ranging from 40 to 90% of the remaining available soil water content, using three different commodity prices to calculate net returns. The center pivot system that showed the highest net return was the system with application capacity of 6mm day-1. The irrigation management regime that resulted the highest net return was the one irrigating the entire field in one day, when the soil moisture in the top 30cm of the profile dropped below 70 to 80% of available soil water. ln the second evaluation, crop models (CROPGRO and CERES) were coupled with a Geographic Information System (AEGIS/WIN) to determine irrigation requirements, annual runoff and annual nitrogen leaching for beans, soybeans and maize in the Tibagi River basin in the State of Paraná, Brazil. The model results were analyzed using spatial analysis methods and displayed by thematic maps to relate this information with irrigation management and planning. The maximum annual irrigation withdrawal, runoff and nitrogen leaching were, respectively, 22.969m3 year-1, 31.152m3 year-1 and 1.488ton year-1, in the Tibagi River Basin.
