Title in English
Effect of water stress on two cultivars of bean (<i>Phaseolus vulgaris</i> L.)
Abstract in English
This work was conducted under greenhouse conditions to study the drought tolerance of bean (<i>Phaseolus vulgaris</i> L.) cultivars IPA 7419 and Mulatinho Vagem Roxa ·cornbined with 4 levels of soil water, resulting in 8 treatments distributed in randomized blocks with 4 replicates. In all levels the soil water potential reached the value of 0,007 MPa each time they were rewatered, until the beginning of flowering. After_ the beginning of flowering, 4 different levels of water potential reached by the soil were stablished after irrigations, which were 0,007; 0,035; 0,061 and 0,101 MPa, caracterized as 1, T2, T3 and T4, respectively. These values were maintained until the end of the cycle. At. harvest, number of pods, number of grains per pod, number of grains, grain yield, gain weight, total dry matter, harvest index and water efficiency use were obtained. Number of pods, number os grains, total dry matter, grain weight and harvest index, showed significative difference (? = 0,01) among soil water levels. Grain yield reductions of 42,8% for cultivar IPA 7419 and of 51,1% for cultivar Mulatinho Vagem Roxa, were observed between levels T1 e T4. According to results showed by linear regressions among the parameters observed and values of soil water potential after irrigations, it was observed that cultivar IPA 7419 was more steady than cultivar Mulatinho Vagem Roxa to the effects of water stress.
