Mineral nutrition and the growth of rubber tree plantations, for the first years of tapping, in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil
Abstract in English
This research aims to evaluate the mineral nutrition and the growth of twenty rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) plantations, on first years of tapping. These plantations are located in different regions on the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The study took the period of one year (from February/89 to February/90), and was based on soil and leaf analysis, using the physiological critical level and sufficiency range, as traditional methods and, the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS), as an alternative criteria to foliar diagnosis. The growth in the period was measured by the annual trunk's mean yearly girth increment at 150 cm above the soil surface. There was no significant correlation between plant growth and macronutrient concentrations in the leaves. Nevertheless, there was a trend of association. The comparison among the soil fertility characteristics at the soil depths of 0-5, 0-20, 21-40 and 41-60 cm, and the annual girth increment, showed that the acidity, the sum of basis and the basis saturation were, significantly, affecting the development of the rubber tree plantations.
