Utilization of africanized bees (Apis mellifera L., 1758) on different techniques of royal jelly production
Abstract in English
This research was carried out to evaluate the ability of the africanized bee (Apis mellifera L., 1758) on the production of royal jelly by using different techniques. Several systems of mini-hives with 40 cups each were used. The following data were evaluated: percentage of acceptance of the grafts, production of royal jelly by mini-have, production per cup and, in some cases, the weight of the larvae upon the harvesting. The results have indicated that there was significant difference between the mini-haves of 2 and 3 nuclei, being this last one 26% superior. The use of the starter method increased the production in 29%; the origin of the grafted larvae did not affect the production; the previous contact of the cups increased the production in 17,5%; and the best production was obtained with 0 to 24 hour old larvae with harvesting after 3 days
