Characterisation of the trees ring grouth woodg of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze, applyng the x-ray microdensitometry
Abstract in English
The present work has as its aim the characterisation of the grouth rings from araucaria trees applyng the X-ray microdensitometric method. Araucaria trees of to 3 diameter categories - dominated, co-dominated and supressed - with 25 years, were cutted of a plantation from this species located, in Arapoti-. Parana, Brazil. Beside the measurement of the dimention and architecture of the tree crown, wood discs were also collected at the below part of the stem, near the ground, and prepared to take X-rays films to be in analised in the microdensitometer. The purchase results allowde: (i) confirmation of the tree age by the analysis of X ray film and density profile to pith to the bark; (ii) evaluate the mean value of the densities of the maximum, minimum and mean of the tree grouth rings; (iii) determine the width variation and the warly and latewood density; (iv) obtain the wood mean density and (v) correlte the canopy of the trees, particularly this architecture, with the tree grouth rings characteristics. ln this work was discussed the results with those one presented in the literature about araucaria, with other methodologies of tree ring grouth ring analisys and wood quality parameters. Also, was presented the application of the X-ray densitometric methods on araucaria for dendrochronology, forestry management , forestry dynamics, etc.
