Avaliou-se o efeito de 21 cultivares de repolho, Brassica oleracea var. capitata, na biologia da traça-das-crucíferas, Plutella xylostella (L., 1758) e no desenvolvimento do parasitóide Trichogramma pretiosum Riley, 1879. A cultivar Couve de Verão (B. oleracea var. acephala) foi incluída como padrão. Larvas de P. xylostella, provenientes de insetos mantidos em couve, foram criadas, por cinco gerações sucessivas, em cada uma das 21 cultivares de repolho. Numa segunda etapa, larvas de P. xylostella, criadas por três gerações sucessivas nas cultivares de repolho, foram alimentadas, na quarta e quinta gerações, em couve e repolho, alternadamente. Foram avaliados, nessas duas etapas, a duração e viabilidade das fases larval e pupal, peso de pupas, fecundidade e o Potencial Reprodutivo Corrigido (PRC). Avaliou-se ainda o desenvolvimento de T. pretiosum em ovos de P. xylostella provenientes de insetos alimentados nas diferentes cultivares de repolho. Com base nos resultados obtidos, verificou-se que as cultivares influenciaram a biologia do inseto, sendo o efeito negativo intensificado com a manutenção do inseto numa mesma cultivar por cinco gerações sucessivas; o PRC é o parâmetro que expressa com maior precisão a influência das cultivares na biologia da praga; a utilização de couve, como hospedeiro de P. xylostella, antecedendo ou sucedendo o repolho, melhora a performance do inseto; as cultivares de repolho, utilizadas para alimentação de P. xylostella, afetam o desenvolvimento de T. pretiosum.

This research deals with the effect of cultivars of cabbage Brassica oleracea var. capitata, on the biology of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L., 1758) and on the development of the parasitoid Trichogramma pretiosum Riley, 1879. The cultivar Couve de Verão (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) was included as control. Larvae from insects reared on leaves of kale were maintained on each of 21 cultivars of cabbage, during five successive generations. In the second experiment, larvae of P. xylostella, reared during three generations on the cabbage cultivars were fed, in the fourth and fifth generations, on kale and cabbage, alternatively. In these trials the duration and viability of larval and pupal stage, pupal weight, fecundity and Adjusted Reproductive Potencial (ARP) were evaluated. The development of T. pretiosum on eggs of P. xylostella reared on the cabbage cultivars was also studied. It was concluded that the cultivars affect the biology of the insect, occurring strong negative effect when the insect is maintained on the same cultivar during successive generations; the Adjusted Reproductive Potencial is the best parameter to determine the influence of cultivars on the biology of this pest; the use of kale for rearing P. xylostella, before or after the use of cabbage, improves the performance of the insect; the cabbage cultivars utilized as hosts of P. xylostella affected the development of T. pretiosum.
