Abstract in English
This research deals with the damage done by defoliators on two year old Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden (Myrtaceae) in dry and rainy seasons. Two experiments were set up consisting of 5 groups of 20 trees and each group was artificially defoliated in 25, 50, 75 100 per cent of the crown. The group with 0% of defoliation was considered as a check. The diameter at breast height (dbh) was monthly measured during one year. At the end of the experiments the following parameters were measured: height variation, total and commercial volume, total and commercial height, biomass of the trunk and of the crown. The results have indicated that the primary productivity was seriously affected at any level of defoliation. The linear regressions which represent the reduction of wood production as a function of the percentage of defoliation are Y= 41.497861+0.7945342x for the dry season, and Y = 19.198676+0.8227296x for the rainy season.
