Efficiency of the parasites Metagonistylum minense Townsend, 1926, Paratheresia claripalpis (Wulp, 1896) and Lixophaga diatraeae (Townsend, 1916) (Diptera, Tachinidae) on the control of the sugar cane borer, Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae)
Abstract in English
This research deals with the study of the efficiency of Metagonistylum minense Towsend, 1926, Paratheresia claripalpis (Wulp, 1896) and Lixophaga diatraeae (Townsend, 1916) (Diptera, Tachinidae), on the control of the sugar cane borer, Diatraea saccharalis (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae). The flies were reared in laboratory and released in the sugar cane fields of the Copersucar Experimental Station in Piracicaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The sugar cane fields of four neighbouring sugar mill companies were used as checks. The action of the parasites was evaluated by surveying the infestation of the sugar cane borer from November to January of each year from 1970 to 1979.
