Toxicity of agri-chemicals on the fungi Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch,) Sorok, and Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill
Resumen en inglés
The effects of chemicals on Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorokin, 1883 and Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill were studied by using 14 formulations: 9 with insecticides and 5 with herbicides. The insecticides carbaryl, diazinon, dimethoate, omethoate, dichlorvos, carbofuran, malathion, permethrin, and mevinphos were added to the medium B D A + antibiotic in the minimal, mean, and maximum doses which were recommended by the manufacturers; in the same manner the herbicides bentazon, alachlor, oxadiazon, 2,4D amina, and simazin, were tested in the doses of 1%, 2%, and 3% of the active ingredient. The following parameters were used to evaluate these effects: a) mean diameter of colonies and mean number of spores, through measures and countings made 5, 9, and 13 days after inoculation; b) the pathogenicity of the fungi on Galleria mellonella (L.) larvae after 7 days from inoculation; and c) the morphological aspects of the colonies 13 days after inoculation. When compared to the check colonies, all the treatments showed to be different among and in the parameters studied. The treatments that most inhibited the fungi development were: diazinon and malathion in the three concentrations, and dichlorvos and oxadiazon in the minimal concentration. A relatively low inhibition was caused by the formulations: debentazon 1%, carbaryl and dimethoate in the maximum concentration, carbofuran in the mean and maximum concentrations, and simazin in the minimal concentration. The treatments that less affected the fungi development were: omethoate and permethrin in the minimal and mean concentrations, mevinphos in the three concentrations, and dimethoate in the minimal concentration. The chemicals that most inhibited the fungi sporulation were: the insecticides carbaryl in the maximum concentration, diazinon and malathion in the three concentrations, dichlorvos and oxadiazon in the minimal concentration, and the herbicides bentazon and simazin in the doses of 2% and 3%. A mean inhibition was caused by bentazon 1% and permethrin in the maximum concentration. The treatments that less affected the fungi sporulation were dimethoate and omethoate in the minimal concentration, mevinphos in the minimal concentration, and permethrin in the mean concentration. The chemicals that less affected the fungi pathogenicity were: bentazon 3%, and dimethoate and mevinphos in the minimal concentration. On the other hand, the chemical that most affected the fungi pathogenicity was carbofuran in the maximum dose. The formulations that most altered the morphological aspects of the colonies were those of simazin, diazinon, malathion, and oxadiazon. The treatments in which the colonies were more similar to the check ones were those with mevinphos, omethoate, and permethrin. The formulations of carbaryl and carbofuran induced the formation of radial sectors in the colonies of Beauveria bassiana.
