Damage by Spodoptena frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera-Noctuidae) on rice plants (Onyza sativa L.) on variable hidric conditions
Abstract in English
Infestation with Spodoptena frugiperda and artificial defoliation were done on the dry land rice cultivar IAC-165, on different growing stages. The objective was to determine damage and control levels for this pest. The results show that the damages done by the larvae were diferente from those produced by artificial defoliation when the infestation was done on the reproductive stage of the plant. At this stage the larvae also ate the developing seed. The regression equations between levels of defoliation (x) and yield (Y) were: 1/Y = 1,00 x 10-3+ 2,49 x 10-8 x2 ; 1/Y = 9,80 x 10-4 +1,20x 10-8x2 e Y2 = 1007704,78 - 70,95 x2 for artificial defoliations conducted at 30, 60 and 90 days after planting, respectively. The regression equation obtained among infestation dates (x) with hydric deficit and seed yields (Y) was 1/Y = 0,19 - 2,92/x. The larvae of S. frugiperda ate 130,7 sguare centimeters. The larvae stage lasted 35 days having 7 instars.
