A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em câmara para B.O.D., a 25 ± 2°C, 70 ± 5% UR e 12 horas de fotofase, utilizando-se fêmeas adultas recém-emergidas de Tetranychus urticae Koch. Os ácaros foram mantidos durante seis dias em discos de folha de Canavalia ensiformis inoculadas com conídios dos fungos. Os isolados de Metarhizium anisopliae e Paecilomyces spp. provocaram baixos índices de mortalidade acumulada (total, corrigida e confirmada), quando inoculados em discos de folha na concentração de 108 conídios/ml. Observou-se entre os 105 isolados testados de Beauveria spp., na concentração de 5x108 conídios/ml, uma grande variação nos valores das três mortalidades acumuladas. No quinto e sexto dias após a inoculação com conídios de Beauveria spp., ocorreu um incremento nos valores das mortalidades acumuladas. Assim, decorridos seis dias da inoculação, 52 isolados causaram mortalidades corrigidas entre 41 e 80%, e apenas 19 isolados provocaram mortalidades iguais ou superiores a 81%. Nenhum isolado apresentou após seis dias, mortalidade confirmada igual ou superior a 81%, sendo que apenas três, provocaram mortalidade entre 61 e 80%. No quarto dia, apenas 22 isolados dos 105 testados, causaram mortalidade corrigida igual ou superior a 41% e destes, oito (307, 457, 489, 494, 868, 908, 969 e PL-63) provocaram mortalidades superiores a 35 e 95% ao terceiro e sexto dias, respectivamente, sendo os mais patogênicos a T. urticae. O isolado PL-63 foi o que apresentou a maior média numérica de produção de conídios em arroz pré-cozido (1,0x1010 conídios/g de arroz). Seis dos oito isolados testados apresentaram valores de produção entre 8,0x109 e 1,0x1010 conídios/g de arroz, sendo o isolado 457 o menos produtivo (3,0x109 conídios/g de arroz). Assim, foi possível selecionar oito isolados de >i>Beauveria spp. com grande potencial para o controle de T. urticae.

Evaluation of entomopathogenic fungi for controlling the Tetranychus urticae Koch

This work was conducted in a rearing chamber at 25±2°C, 70±5% RH and 12 h photophase, using recently emerged females of Tetranychus urticae Koch. Mites were maintained for 6 days on leaf disks of Canavalia ensiformis inoculated with conidia of different species and isolates of fungi. Isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae and Paecilomyces spp. caused low levels of accumulated mortality (total, corrected and confirmed), at 108 conidia/ml. Great variation in accumulated mortality was observed for the 105 tested isolates of Beauveria spp., at 5 x 108 conidia/ml. Significant increases in accumulated mortality were observed on the fifth and sixth days after inoculation; fifty two isolates (50% of the total) caused corrected mortality of 41 to 80% 6 days after inoculation, 19 of which (18%) caused at least 81% corrected mortality. After 6 days, none of the isolates caused 81% or more confirmed mortality; only 3 isolates (2.9%) caused 61 to 80% confirmed mortality. Of the most pathogenic isolates, 22 caused at least 41% corrected mortality on the fourth day and 8 (307, 457, 489, 494, 868, 908, 969 and PL-63) caused at least 35% and 95% mortality on the third and sixth days, respectively. Isolate PL-63 produced the largest numbers of conidia on pre-cooked rice substrate (1.0 x 1010 conidia/g of rice substrate). Six of 8 tested isolates produced between 8.0 x 109 and 1.0 x 1010 conidia/g of rice substrate; isolate 457 was the least productive (3.0 x 109 conidia/g of rice substrate). The work allowed the selection of 8 isolates of Beauveria spp. with great potential to control T. urticae.
