Abstract in English
This research deals with the biology and the morphological characteristics of Montina confusa (Stal, 1859) (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Zelinae). The insect was collected in an Eucalyptus sp. plantation located in the municipality of Moji-Guaçu, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The insect was reared with larvae of Galleria mellonella L., 1758 (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae), in the laboratory (25 ± 1°C, RU 70 ± 10%, 14-hour photoperiod) of the Department of Entomology, Superior School of Agriculture “Luiz de Queiroz”, University of São Paulo, in Piracicaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The morphological characteristics of the five instars, as well as of the male and female adults, are presented. The other parameters studied were: the number of eggs per female, the number of eggs per egg mass, the egg period, the egg viability, longevity of male and female adults, sex ratio, viability of nymphal instars, and predatory and mating behavior.
