As atividades ligadas ao turismo têm tomado vulto cada vez maior junto à sociedade. Seja no âmbito econômico, seja na esfera cultural ou sociológica ou mesmo nas suas relações com o ambiente, tais atividades têm recebido atenção por parte de estudiosos e pesquisadores. Os aspectos físicos do desenvolvimento do turismo, exercendo forças diretamente sobre a estrutura de lugares com atrativos, muitas vezes têm sido negligenciados por parte de planejadores e legisladores, resultando em prejuízos ao meio e à sociedade. As alterações causadas podem ser percebidas por agentes usuários do local, sejam eles turistas ou moradores. A dimensão e extensão dessas ocorrências demandam ser mensuradas e avaliadas para que se possa melhor compreender e posteriormente planejar e ordenar tais atividades. Levando-se em conta a complexidade do tema, procurou-se nessa pesquisa, sob a ótica de uma abordagem preservacionista e sob as luzes da fenomenologia e da estatística, elaborar uma contribuição aos estudiosos e interessados no desenvolvimento de uma atividade turística que busca uma prática sustentável. A paisagem está se alterando como não poderia deixar de ser, posto que é dinâmica. Tais mudanças estão ocorrendo por processos naturais ou são oriundas da ação antrópica. Porém, no que concerne às alterações resultantes do desenvolvimento das atividades turísticas, tais desdobramentos podem levar a uma exploração que se torna predatória pois resulta numa perda das qualidades das paisagens e posterior perda do interesse pelo espaço por parte dos apreciadores do turismo. Como resultado de nossos esforços, descobrimos que o conceito de paisagem não está claro para a maioria das pessoas, que as paisagens no município de São Bento do Sapucaí encontram-se em constante mutação, e os usuários do lugar percebem tais alterações e manifestam-se favoráveis às ocorrências, mesclando interesses econômicos com desconhecimento do que vem a ser uma atividade sustentável e pouca visão de longo prazo.

The activities related to tourism have been grown more and more within our society. Either in the economic scope, either in the cultural or sociological and in its relations with environment, such activities had been deserving the attention by scholars and researchers. The physical aspects of tourism that causes an impact directly on the structures of attractive places many times have been neglected by part of planners and legislators resulting in damages to environment and society. The changings that were caused could be noticed by using agents of environment whether they are tourists or local people. The dimension and extension of these occurrences demand to be measured and evaluated for a better comprehension so that, such activities could later be planned and organized. Taking into account the complexity of this theme, we tried into this research to elaborate a contribution for the scholars and those interested in the development of an activity that searches for a sustainable position under the perspective of a preservationist approach and through the aspects of phenomenology and statistics. The landscape is changing and couldn't it be different, as it is dynamic. Such changes are occurring in its natural form or by the action of the man, however as regards the changes resulting from the tourist activities development such consequences can take to an exploration that could became predatory therefore resulting in a loss of the landscapes qualities and later to enable a loss of the spatial interest of the tourists lovers. As a result of our efforts we discovered that the meaning of landscape is not clear to the most of people, in addition to, the landscape in the city of São Bento do Sapucaí are in constant mutation and the users of the place perceive such changings and are favorable to them mixing economic interests, lack of knowledge of what a sustainable activity is and a short term vision.
