Procurei rastrear o trajeto do tópico distribuição de renda no interior da teoria econômica e dar um breve relato da discussão no caso brasileiro, no sentido de tentar avaliar a viabilidade de se confinar a questão a uma discussão econômica. Dentro da teoria delimitaram-se inicialmente 2 grandes enfoques: o funcional e o pessoal. No tocante à abordagem funcional, apropriação da renda pelos proprietários dos fatores de produção, a preocupação corresponde à ótica original dos clássicos. Descreve-se as principais visões dentro dessa escola e as posteriores críticas e contribuições de Marx, dos neoclássicos, de Keynes e de autores mais contemporâneos. Quanto ao enfoque da distribuição pessoal, individual, mais recente e hoje predominante destacam-se as contribuições de escolas como a estocástica e a do capital humano, entre outras, em geral caracterizadas por se tratar de visões bastante parciais. Abordou-se em seguida as relações entre macroeconomia e a questão distributiva, nos seus dois sentidos de causalidade enfocados na literatura. A discussão brasileira foi abordada tendo como ponto de partida os primeiros estudos no limiar dos anos 70, com Langoni especialmente, e seus desdobramentos, caracterizando uma escassez de produção acadêmica relevante. A necessidade de uma abordagem que leve em conta variáveis não econômicas me pareceu ficar clara ao final do trabalho.

I intended to follow the path the topic income distribution took within the economic theory and to give a brief report of this discussion in the Brazilian case, in order to appraise the viability of circumscribing this question within a economic treatment. Within the theory we found initially two views: the functional and the personal one. The functional approach worries about the appropriation of income by the factor of production’s holders, the original classical view. The main thoughts within this school, the latter developments and the critics from Marx, the neoclassics, Keynes and more recent authors are briefly described. The personal, individual approach prevails nowadays. Schools like the stochastic and the human capital, among others, are presented as generally having very partial opinions. Following the inquiry we dealed with the relations between macroeconomy and the distributive questions in its two paths of causality that we found in the literature. The Brazilian discussion was trated with its starting point in the first works of the beginning of the 70s, specially those of Langoni and its aftermaths. There is a scarcity of weighty academic production. The necessity of an approach that strongly considers non-economic variables seems to be clear at the end of the work.
