As Universidades Corporativas no contexto do Ensino Superior
Keywords in Portuguese
ensino superior
universidades corporativas

Abstract in English
The objective of this paper was to identify corporate universities in the context of higher education, related to the representation of potential competition or strategic opportunities for higher education institutions. It is an exploratory study of a qualitative nature and the case study method was adopted, applied to multiple cases. The data gathering and analysis was made up of three phases. The first phase adopted a method of analysis known as grounded theory, which generated a theory that consists of a typology proposed for corporate universities. This theory established the criterion for defining the sample. American and Brazilian corporate universities were intentionally selected using this criterion. Primary data were gathered from semi-structured interviews with key people from these institutions, using the content analysis method, corresponding to the second phase of data collection and analysis. The perspective of the main representative organs of Brazilian higher education institutions and deans of main higher education institutions responsible for the areas of knowledge most commonly sought by corporate universities for the establishment of partnerships complemented other data gathered, making up the third phase of data gathering and analysis. It was concluded that corporate universities are, in the present conditions, predominantly more representative of competitive situations. These situations are restricted, mainly, to some knowledge areas, highlighting graduate programs, and other segments where the adult public is concentrated.
