Nesta dissertação me debruço sobre o acervo de pinturas kayapó-xikrin (grupo de língua Jê, habitante do Pará) coletado pela antropóloga Lux Vidal nas décadas de 1970 e 1980. Tal acervo é parte integrante da pesquisa da antropóloga e pertence hoje à coleção do Laboratório de Imagem e Som em Antropologia da Universidade de São Paulo. As pinturas foram elaboradas em papel por mulheres indígenas a pedido de Vidal, que tinha a intenção de compreender e documentar o processo da pintura corporal, produção artística de extrema relevância entre os Xikrin. Por meio de uma aproximação com os contextos social e cultural das pinturas, essencial para o entendimento de tais manifestações e suas funções, a análise proposta aqui tem como foco o aprofundamento nas questões formais, principalmente quanto às relações entre pintura e suporte. Por um lado, me aproximo de noções antropológicas que ajudam a compreender o lugar da pintura a partir do conceito de fabricação corporal. Por outro, centrando-me nas imagens, seus métodos e suas formas, procuro entender como o suporte é, por sua vez, também capaz de fabricar a pintura. Este estudo busca assim sublinhar a existência de modos específicos de manifestações visuais, suas intenções e processos, com o objetivo de contribuir para o pensamento e a prática nos campos das artes gráficas e da linguagem visual. A narrativa construída surge de um corpo a corpo com as imagens e do discurso presente em cada uma delas, possibilitando assim uma leitura centrada nas pinturas e no que elas podem revelar.

In this dissertation I focus on the collection of paintings kayapó-xikrin (Jê language group, inhabitant of Pará) collected by the anthropologist Lux Vidal in the 1970s and 1980s. This collection is an integral part of the research of the anthropologist and belongs to the Laboratory of Image and Sound in Anthropology of the University of São Paulo. The paintings were elaborated on paper by the natives at the request of Vidal, who intended to understand and document the process of body painting, artistic production of extreme relevance among the Xikrin. By means of an approximation with the social and cultural contexts of xikrin body paintings, essential for the understanding of these manifestations and their functions, the analysis proposed here focuses on the deepening of formal issues, especially regarding the relationship between painting and support. On the one hand, I approach anthropological notions that help to understand the paintings from the concept of body fabrication. On the other hand, focusing on the images, their methods and their forms, I try to understand how the support is also able to transform the painting. This study thus seeks to emphasize the existence of specific modes of visual manifestations, their intentions and processes, with the aim of contributing to the thinking and practice in the fields of graphic arts and visual language. The constructed narrative arises from an approximation with the images and the discourse present in each of them, thus allowing an analysis centered on the paintings and on what they can reveal.
