Abstract in English
In this research, the object of study is the Caatinga biome, a semi-arid region in northeastern Brazil, particularly focusing on the landscape of the Agreste Pernambucano, with an emphasis on the cities of Bezerros, Caruaru, and Gravatá. The study began by exploring the causes of semi-aridity in the Northeast and the remarkable adaptations of the local vegetation to adverse climatic conditions. The central purpose of the research is to understand the underlying meanings and significances associated with the valuation of the Caatinga, often negative, and to identify the factors that could lead to a new perspective on this ecosystem. To achieve this, a phenomenological approach guided interviews with those who experience this landscape. Furthermore, an understanding of the image of the sertão, as depicted in textual, literary, and scientific records, was sought. Finally, a nationwide digital workshop provided insights into the possibilities of reshaping the imagery of the Caatinga through pedagogical strategies. In parallel, ecological, cultural, and social issues related to the Caatinga were examined with the aim of valuing and preserving this genuinely Brazilian ecosystem by addressing economic alternatives and actions aimed at dissociating the Caatinga landscape from the stigma of suffering associated with drought, fostering a more harmonious coexistence with this vegetation, and promoting a broader and more respectful appreciation of the Caatinga.
