Keywords in Portuguese
Diástase
Fisioterapia
Puerpério

Abdominal exercises for the treatment of abdominal diastasis postpartum vagina delivery

Abstract in English
After delivery, the diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles (DRAM) is associated with greater muscle - ligamentar laxity, joint instability, postural imbalance and anti-aesthetic effect. The training oft he abdominal muscles which is flaccid or hypotonic tends to improve their tone through exercises that encourage voluntary action of these muscles and facilitate the reduction of DRAM. ln order to check whether a pre-established protocol of physiotherapy (PAF-puerperium) during the postpartum influences on measures of DRAM, 105 women were assessed for DRAM with the measurement made in fingers with manual and digital calipers and by ultrasonography. The women were divided into two random groups (control and activity). The Activity Group (AG), was performed daily PAF-puerperium under supervision during the first ten days of postpartum. All participants were assessed in two stages: first with at least 6 hours and over 24 hours after delivery and reevaluated after the tenth day of puerperium. ln the measurements made in DRAM fingers, the AG decreased 75% from the values obtained at the first evaluation and the Control Group (CG) 38%. When the DRAM was assessed with manual and digital calipers, the AG reduced 49% and 44% , respectively, and CG, 12% and 11% compared to the values obtained in the first measurement. On ultrasound, the AG showed 49% of reduction and CG, 20% in the second evaluation. The PAF-puerperium influences the reduction of diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles postpartum.
