O presente trabalho descreve um estudo sobre a influência de juntas de construção em barragem de terra. Trata-se de uma barragem que está sendo construída com alteamentos sucessivos para jusante, com a finalidade de retenção de rejeito de mineração de ouro. Foram extraídas amostras indeformadas dos materiais representativos do aterro, incluindo-se zonas afetadas pelas juntas de construção, para determinação de sua resistência ao cisalhamento. Foram analisadas superfícies de ruptura de geratrizes circular e poligonal passando pelas juntas de construção. As análises indicaram fator de segurança mais conservador para a superfície de deslizamento "poligona" do que para a superfície "circular". Foram também processadas análises de estabilidade, variando a coesão dos solos, a fim de se obter o valor mínimo de coesão, tal que a superfície de deslizamento crítica corresponda a "poligonal" passando pelas juntas de construção

This work analyses the influence of joint construction on the slope stability of an earthfill tailing dam. This dam has been built in stages, using the downstream construction method. Unremolded samples from the downstream slope, including material from the construction joint zones, were tested in the triaxial apparatus. Slope stability analysis using circular and polygonal failure surfaces, passing through the construction joints, were carried out. The results indicated the polygonal slide surfaces are more conservative than the circular ones. A parametric study of the influence of ' cohesion on the downstream slope safety factor was also carried out in arder to find a cohesion value which would allow the criticai slide surface to match a polygonal surface passing through the construction joints.
