Avalia-se o comportamento mecânico, principalmente as questões relacionadas à resistência ao cisalhamento, de um solo não saturado quando do incremento de pressão de ar, em condições não drenadas. Busca-se com isso reproduzir o que ocorrer numa camada estanque de aterro sanitário, pela geração de gases durante os processos de digestão. Para tanto, ensaios de compressão triaxial, do tipo não drenado, foram realizados em corpos de prova de solo compactado nos quais, procura-se estudar de que forma o aumento da pressão de gás interfere nos parâmetros de resistência e na deformação do solo. Conclui-se, como esperado, que a resistência decresce com o aumento da pressão de ar, havendo variação tanto do intercepto de coesão, quanto do ângulo de atrito. Por outro lado, corpos de prova carregados com um determinado nível de tensões, mantidas constantes, não se deformaram significativamente quando do incremento gradual da pressão de ar, talvez devido à rigidez dos corpos de prova, compactados no ramo seco da curva de compactação, porém, quando a pressão de ar atingiu determinados níveis, ocorreu a ruptura brusca do solo

Abstract in English
The behavior of a non saturated compacted soil is studied considering the influence of air pressure on undrained shearing strength and the influence of increasing air pressure on soil deformation. Tests were thought to reproduce conditions that can be found in sanitary landfill by the gases generated during digestion process. From undrained triaxial compression tests, were air pressure was raised after consolidation, It was found, as expected, that shear strength decreases as air pressure is increased. Shear strength was related to net normal stress according to linear relationship for each value of confining pressure and both shear strength angle and cohesion intercept were found to vary with confining pressure. Samples loaded to a certain stress level didn't deform appreciably when air pressure was gradually increased, perhaps because of stiffness of sample compacted bellow of optimum water content, but, when air pressure reached a certain value, the sample abruptly failed.
