A tremonha é a principal responsável pelo êxito de funcionamento dos silos. Ela desempenha importantes funções nas descargas e nos controles de fluxos dos produtos armazenados. Neste trabalho, estuda-se o comportamento estrutural de tremonhas piramidais de aço através de procedimentos analíticos, numéricos e experimentais. Os ensaios foram realizados em laboratório utilizando-se modelos em escala real para tremonhas não-enrijecidas e enrijecidas. Estes sistemas estruturais estão sujeitos a estados combinados de tensões biaxiais para as chapas e uni-axiais para os enrijecedores. Os resultados demonstraram que as tremonhas não-enrijecidas são viáveis apenas para silos baixos com pequenas relações altura/lado (cargas não muito elevadas). Os métodos analíticos utilizados na prática para o dimensionamento das mesmas são muito conservadores e recomenda-se a utilização de métodos numéricos. Verificou-se que as tremonhas enrijecidas podem proporcionar relativa economia em peso de chapas. Métodos analíticos ou numéricos pela «teoria dos pequenos deslocamentos" demonstraram ser muito conservadores nos dimensionamentos das chapas. Para este tipo de tremonha, devido à baixa rigidez à flexão das chapas finas. deve-se supor que estas trabalhem, primordialmente, pelo efeito-membrana. Assim, para dimensionamentos mais racionais, propõe-se a utilização do "método dos grandes deslocamentos" aplicado às placas. A teoria analítica para o dimensionamento dos enrijecedores proporcionou valores satisfatórios para as seções transversais. De acordo com os ensaios, a princípio, os enrijecedores prescindem de maior rigidez à torção.

The hopper is considered like the main responsible element by the operation of the silos. It fulfills important functions on the discharge and on the flows control of stored products. In this work, the structural behaviour of steel pyramidal hoppers has been studied through of analytical, munerical, and experimental procedures. The essays were realized in laboratory and they had used full-scale models to stiffened and nonstiffened hoppers. These structural systems are subjected to combined states of biaxial stresses to the plates and unixial ones to the stiffeners. The results has showed that the nonstiffened hoppers are viable only to lower silos that present the small relationships height/side (loads aren't very higher). The analytical methods that had been used commonly to the design of the both hoppers are considered like very conservative and it has been recommended the use of numerical methods. lt has been showed that the stiffened hoppers can provoke relative economy when the subject is the weight of the plates. Analytical or numerical methods by "small-deflection theory" had showed to be very conservative in the design of the plates. For this kind of hopper, it's suggested that the work be made, at first, by membrane-effect, because of lower stiffness to the thinner plates flexion. So, to the more rational design, it's suggested the use of the "large-deflection theory" applied to the plates. The analytical theory to design of the stiffeners brought satisfactory values to the issues, at first, the stiffeners prescind from greater stiffness to the torsion.
