Abstract in English
In this work a particulate solids feeding system based on fluidization principles was studied. The system is based on a fluid bed distributior plate which holds the bottom of a particulate resting cone provided by a feeding hopper. The system also includes a second distributor plate for providing the distribution of the main particulate stream among four discharge sections. Experiments were developed mainly for establishing the performance of de system regarding the uniformity of solids distribution among the discharge sections. The system was observed to be of difficuit control and showed poor repeatability. However, the uniformity of solids distribution was very good. The experimental results also allowed some degree of analysis regarding the mechanism controlling the solids feeding. For the finer particulate it was found that the fluidization of the particles close to the air distribution plate was possibly the controlling step. For the coarser particulate, perturbations imposed on the particles by the jets from the distributor where sufficient to start the solids feeding, even at superficial air velocities lower than minimum fluidizing velocity.
