Um trabalho experimental foi realizado para analisar a sensibilidade ao vento lateral, no estudo de características aerodinâmicas que influem na estabilidade de um veículo terrestre. Os coeficientes de arrasto e de força lateral foram obtidos demedidas realizadas com um modelo em escala 1:5, utilizando-se um túnel de vento de circuito aberto e câmara de ensaios fechada. As medidas foram feitas através de uma balança aerodinâmica. A distância entre a superfície inferior do veículo e opiso, "ground clearance", adotada nos experimentos foi de 0,037m. Os ensaios foram realizados com uma configuração de modelo padrão "MIRA'. Neste método de testes o modelo é rotacionado em torno dos eixos y e z, do sistema de coordenadas oxyzfixo no c.g. do modelo, e fixado nas posições de ensaios. A rotação do modelo gera um ângulo de ataque lateral 'beta', que varia de 0 grau a 20 graus, e um pequeno deslocamento angular em torno do eixo y, de menos 5 graus a 5 graus para o ângulode ataque álfa'. Através dos métodos experimentais de visualização foi possível analisar a direção do fluxo na superfície do modelo. Os resultados apresentados pelos experimentos mostraram a variação dos coeficientes de arrasto e de forçalateral devido a atuação de rajadas de ventos laterais. Neste trabalho as variações dos coeficientes das forças aerodinâmicas foram avaliadas, tornando possível detectar em quais condições um automóvel apresentaria comportamento instável, devidoàs variações das forças aerodinâmicas

An experimental work was performed to analyze the effect of lateral wind on the aerodynamic characteristics that influence the stabilíty of a road vehicle. The drag and side force coefficients, CD and cy, were obtained from measurements made using a 1:5 scale model. An open circuit wind tunnel with a closed test section was used. The measurements were made using a rapid response wind tunnel balance. The distance between the lower surface of the vehicle and the floor, ground clearance, adopted in the experiments was 0.037m. The tests were executed using a standard configuration "MIRA" model. In this test method the model is turned around the y and z axes, using a fixed coordinate oxyz system at the model c.g., and fastened in position in the test section. The rotation of the model generates a lateral angle of attack , that varies between 0° and 20°, and a small angular dísplacement around the y axis, from -5° to 5°, for the angle of attack a. Using experimental vísualization methods it was possible to analyze the direction of the flow on the surface of the model. The results presented by the experiments showed the variation of the drag and side force coefficients, CD and cy, due to the application of bursts of lateral wind. In this work the variations of the coefficients of the aerodynamic force were evaluated, making possible to detect in which conditions an automobile would present instability, due to the variations of the aerodynamic forces.
