Abstract in English
Handling characteristics of an automotive vehicle were studied with the aid of a computational tool for multibody system simulation. The vehicle model included not only a full suspension and steering subsystems but also a tyre and a driver models. Typical handling maneuvers performed included step steer input, constant radius turn and double lane change. Results obtained included maximum lateral acceleration, understeer gradient and transient response. Simulation results showed good agreement with measured data and subjective vehicle evaluation. Finally, it can be observed that the use of a tool with a user friendly interface makes development times shorter and parametric studies easier, enabling the designer to achieve the desired vehicle characteristics much less costly.
