Abstract in English
This work reports on performance tests in two anaerobic/aerobic baffled reactors in series. The reactors were comprised of four compatments in series with 2.25 hters, except the first one with 3.25 liters, and with overall useful volume of 10 liters. Initially, the reactors were operated separately with hydraulic detention times (TDH) of 12, 8 and 6 hours applied to the anaeróbio reactor. Afterwards, the reactors were operated in series wiíh TDH decreasing from 8 to 6 hours. The chemícal oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency ranged from 64 to 73% in the anaerobic reactor and the total suspended solids (TSS) removal efficiency was higher thean 80%. The anaerobíc/aerobic system presented mean COD removal efficiencies of 89 and 85% for TDH of 8 ande 6 hours, respectively. The removal efficiency of nitrogen as ammonium was found to be 60 and 6 hours, respectively. Femc chloride was added to the aerobic reactor at the end of the experiments in order to improve the phoshorus removal. After the addition of such a chemical compound, the mean phosphorus removal efficiency was 56% in the anaeróbio/ aerobic system.
