Abstract in Portuguese
Abstract in English
When analyzing the metal finishing treatment processes used by GE Dako S.A. it was intended to show that the introduction of the environmental thematic, besides contributing for an improvement of the environment, is an effective instrument of theproduction processes improvement for reduction of the production costs increasing the competitiveness. Initially, after the recognition of every phases of the productive process an inventory of residues was elaborated with the objective ofidentifying the main potential pollution sources of the company. With the obtained information a program was elaborated in order to collect data and samples seeking a characterization of the liquid efluents and classification of the solidwastes. As main accomplished activities there are included a construction of a unified treatment system of industrial liquid efluents, the construction of a system for industrial water recycling and the installation of press filters for thedehydration of the sludges generated in the metal finishing treatment process. As a result of those activities there are highlighted a total reduction of 29% on the water volume consumed and a reduction of 20% in the amount of generated solidwastes. As a consequence of these results it was possible to have a cost reduction that, projected by a period of one year, represents an economy of R$ 508.996,28. Key words: liquid
