Keywords in Portuguese
encapsulamento
metais pesados
resíduo industrial

Foundrysand encapsulation in cement matrix
Keywords in English
encapsulation
heavy metals
industrial waste
Abstract in English
This paper presents a study of elimination and rmmrmzation of the environmental effects caused by waste generated from casting processes. Discardable foundtysand is usually. improperly disposed of and may provoke the release of heavy metais contained in it. Adopting the cement waste encapsulation (solidification) as a treatment process, the research has determined combinations for Portland cement mortars, aggregating foundrysand. Matrices with cement/waste ratios of 1:3, 1:5, 1:8 and 1::10 _haye been subjected to .experiments of leaching, soluhilization, X-ray diflfaction and compressive strength, at the ages of 7, 28 and 90 days. The results have led to the conclusion that cement encapsulation is a feasible and successful technique for distoxication of such wastes, and the resistances of the matrices formed have shown the potenciality of using discardable foundrysand in cement pieces in the field of Civil engineering.
