A degradação ambiental é um dos maiores problemas que se vive atualmente. Essa constatação se verifica principalmente nas regiões metropolitanas, bem como em regiões que se encontram em processo de metropolização. Este processo vem agravar aqualidade de vida regional e principalmente a intra-urbana. Portanto, implementar ações que possam levar em consideração as características ambientais dessas regiões, compreende estabelecer um diagnóstico ambiental amplo. Nesse sentido, a baciahidrográfica passa a responder por essa amplitude, pois ela define o espaço geográfico de sustentação dos fluxos de um ecossistema complexo - hierarquização dos sistema. Nesse contexto, torna-se relevante o enquadramento regional definido poresse espaço geográfico, como o instumental de gestão ambiental do território, onde restrições e potencialidades definem tomadas de decisões e ações do planejamento. A presente tese adota essas considerações fazendo um recorte no universo dapesquisa, onde o Município de Piracicaba (parte), definido pelas coordenadas geográficas: UTM - 194 a 242 kmE / 7469 a 7508 kmN, é o objeto desta investigação. Adota-se ainda o uso dos instrumentais: Sensoriamento Remoto; Sistema de InformaçõesGeográficas - SIG e modelagem matemática "Cadeia de Markov" como elementos de suporte no disgnóstico ambiental desse território. A integração desse método aponta resultados relevantes à tomada de decisões, demonstrando ainda a possibilidade dese obter respostas espaciais complexas com o emprego desses instrumentais, sem a necessidade de grandes investimentos

The environmental degradation is one of the biggest problems nowadays. That verification is mainly observed in the metropolitan areas, as well as in areas under cosmopolitan process. This process comes to worsen the quality o f the regional life and mainly the intra-urban one. Therefore, to implement actions that can conduct to consideration the environmental characteristics in those regions, means to establish a wide environmental diagnosis. In this sense the hydrographic basin starts to respond for that width, because it defines the geographical support space of the flows of a complex ecosystem - hierarchization of the system. In this context, it becomes important the regional boundary defmed by that geographical space, as an instrumental of environmental administration of the territory, where restrictions and potentialities define decisions taking and actions of the planning. The present thesis adopts those considerations mak.ing a cutting in the universe o f the research where the Municipal district of Piracicaba (part of it), defined by the geographical co-ordinates UTM - 194 to 242 kmE I 7469 to 7508 kmN, is the object of this investigation. It is still adopted the use of the following instrumental: Remote Sensoring; Geographical lnformation System- GIS and mathematical modelling "Chain of Markov") as support elements in the environmental diagnosis of that territory.
