Abstract in Portuguese
A Represa do Lobo foi tratada como "caixa-preta" para se fazer o balanço de nitrogênio. Foram quantificadas mensalmente as entradas de nitrogênio atravvés dos afluentes e do lençol subterrãneo e as saídas através do efluente, processos de desnitrificação e decomposição de aminoácidos e fossilização. A fixação de nitrogênio realizada pelos microrganismos foi determinada numericamente e resultou em 154.080 kg N ano-¹. Se o nitrogênio gasoso desprendido pela represa for considerado como não proveniente da desnitrificação a taxa de fixação que resulta é de 62 082 kg N ano-¹. O valor de fixação variou mensalmente, correspondendo de 31 a 90% da entrada total de nitrogênio para a represa. O balanço de água na Represa do Lobo mostrou que o lençol subterrâneo contribui com 20 a 80% da vazão de água pra a Represa, mas o aporte de nitrogênio através dele não é a maior contribuição (em relação aos outros componentes do balanço) pois a concentração de nitrogênio total é baixa

Abstract in English
The Lobo Reservoir was treated as a black-box to stablish its nitrogen budset. Nitrogen mputs were quantified considering river and ground water inflows and the outputs through effluent, denitrification and aminoacid decomposition and fossilization. The nitrogen fixation realized by microrganisms was determined numerically and was 154.000 kg N y-¹. If the gaseous nitrogen released by the reservoir is considered as originating through some mechanism other than denitrification, the fixation rate is calculated to be 62 082 kg N y-¹. The fixation value changed monthly and accounts for 31 to 90% of the nitrogen input to the reservoir. The water budget shows groundwater to contribute with 20 a 80% of the inflow but with its low nitrogen concentration it is not the largest source of nittrogen.
