Com a crescente internacionalização dos mercados, a competição comercial se tornou acirrada e a busca por vantagens competitivas tem se mostrado fundamental para o aprimoramento da competitividade e sobrevivência das organizações. Neste contexto apresenta-se a função Manufatura e os Sistemas de Administração da Produção como importantes agentes para a consecução dos objetivos estratégicos das empresas industriais. Através da apresentação de alguns desses sistemas de gerenciamento dos recursos da produção (Sistema Convencional de Administração da Produção, MRP/MRP II (Material Requirements Planning e Manufacturing Resources Planning, respectivamente), Just-in-time/Kanban e sistemas ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning)), forma-se uma base teórica para apoiar o estudo de caso realizado em uma empresa industrial brasileira, que obteve resultados significativos através da utilização integrada de diferentes sistemas de administração da produção, conferindo-lhe grande competitividade nos aspectos relacionados a custos, qualidade, velocidade e confiabilidade de entregas, flexibilidade e satisfação dos serviços prestados ao cliente

With the growing internationalization of the markets, the commercial competition became hard and the search for competitive advantages has been showing fundamental for the improvement of the competitiveness and survival of the organizations. In this context it presents the function Manufactures and the Production Management Systems as importantagents for the attainment of the strategic objectives of the industrial companies. Through the presentation of some of these production resources management systems (Conventional Production Management System, MRP/MRP II (Material Requirements Planning and Manufacturing Resources Planning, respectively), Just-in-time/Kanban and ERP systems (Enterprise Resources Planning)), form a theoretical base to support the case study accomplished in a Brazilian industrial company, that obtained significant results through the integrated use of different production management systems, giving it great competítiveness in the aspects related to costs, quality, speed and reliability of deliveris, flexibílity and satisfaction of the services offered to the customer.
