Em decorrência da Reforma Psiquiátrica no Brasil, a assistência à pessoa em sofrimento vem apresentando modificações. A assistência que anteriormente era oferecida pelos hospitais psiquiátricos, hoje deve ser realizada por serviços abertos, de modo que as pessoas não sejam afastadas de seu convívio familiar e social, durante o período de tratamento. O Ministério da Saúde tem como diretriz que as ações de saúde mental sejam também realizadas na rede básica de saúde, ou seja, nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde e Unidades do Programa Saúde da Família (PSF), este representando uma importante estratégia de assistência, pois visa a prevenção de doenças, promoção e recuperação da saúde física e mental da população, com a conseqüente melhora da qualidade de vida das pessoas. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo conhecer o que pensam os profissionais que atuam em uma unidade do PSF sobre a pessoa acometida pelo sofrimento psíquico, bem como identificar as dificuldades encontradas por eles na assistência a essa clientela na comunidade. A metodologia utilizada foi a qualitativa e, como estratégia metodológica, utilizou-se o estudo de caso. Para a coleta de dados foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas, sendo dez os profissionais participantes deste estudo, no PSF pesquisado. Das entrevistas emergiram os seguintes temas, com suas respectivas categorias: 1º tema: Sofrimento Psíquico, categorias: carências; preconceitos; dificuldades na família; 2º tema: dificuldades sentidas, categorias: ausência de preparo adequado; intersetorialidade precária. A análise evidencia que os profissionais alvo percebem os acometidos pelo sofrimento psíquico como seres carentes, tanto nos aspectos afetivo e familiar, como no sócio-econômico, sofrendo preconceito tanto por parte dos profissionais como da sociedade, evidenciado por situações de exclusão e isolamento. Os entrevistados relataram também o sofrimento e a dificuldade das famílias em relação à convivência com a pessoa em sofrimento psíquico, e os entraves que encontram para prestar assistência a essas pessoas, por não se sentirem preparados para lidar com este sofrimento. A integração não satisfatória com os outros serviços de nível secundário de assistência também interfere na atenção prestada. Dessa maneira, fica evidente a necessidade de investimento e de valorização dos aspectos inerentes à saúde mental, por parte dos gestores de saúde e da universidade, como órgão formador.

As a result of the Psychiatric Reformation in Brazil, the assistance to the person in psychic suffering, previously carried through by psychiatric hospitals, now must be offered by open services, in a way that people are not moved away from their families and social environment during the period of treatment. Brazilian legislation concerning health assistance has established that the actions concerning mental health should be taken in the basic level, that is, in the Basic Units of Health and Units of the Family Health Program (PSF), this representing an important strategy of assistance, once it aims at preventive attention, promotion and recovery of physical and mental health, consequently improving the persons` quality of life. The present work had as objective to know what the professionals actuating in a unit of the PSF think on the person presenting psychic suffering, as well as to identify their difficulties within the community. The qualitative approach was used, having as methodologic strategy the case study. For the data collection, open-closed interviews were carried out. Ten professionals from a PSF unit participated in the study. The following themes and their respective categories have emerged from the interviews: 1º: Psychic suffering - categories: lacks; preconceptions; difficulties in the family, 2º: difficulties apprehended - categories: absence of adequate preparation; precarious communication among the existing units for health assistance. The analysis evidences that the professionals who actuate in such a unit of the PSF perceive the person with psychic suffering as one lacking affective, social, economic and familiar support; the discrimination they suffer from caregivers and the society was evidenced by situations of exclusion and isolation, together with the families` suffering and difficulty to live with their member in psychic suffering. The respondents mentioned their difficulty in assisting these people, relating that they need to be well prepared to deal with the psychic suffering, and that there is not a good integration with the other health services of secondary level, providing a negative reflection on the assistance offered. So, it is evident the necessity of investment in issues concerning Mental Health on the part of the institutions involved as well as of the universities responsible for the these professionals` graduation .
