Randomized controlled clinical trial to evaluate the treatment of atrophied alveolar ridge reconstruction using Collaged Xenogenic Bone Block (CXBB) versus Autogenous Bone Block (ABB) treatment

Abstract in English
Compare safety and performance through tomographic analysis of the Collagenized Xenogenic Bone Block (BOXC) for horizontal reconstruction of the atrophied alveolar ridge, in areas of one to four extension teeth, compared with the Autogenous Bone Block graft (BOA), gold standard in rehabilitation for this type of defect. Material and Method: Sixty-four patients were selected and randomized randomly in the BOXC and BOA groups, both associated with Deproteinized Bovine Bone Mineral (MOBD) covered with a Collagen Membrane (MC), for horizontal bone augmentation. Tomographic measurements prior to the graft (BL) and after 30 weeks (FU) were performed by overlapping the tomographic files. The primary outcome was the width of the horizontal bone crest 2 mm below the vestibular alveolar bone crest (HCB-2). The measurements also included changes, vestibular and palatal, at 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm below the bone crest. Results: After 30 weeks, the estimated changes in vestibular thickness gain, in the central region of the target site at 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm below the alveolar bone crest, were, respectively: 3.71 (± 1.55) , 4.58 (± 1.11), 4.30 (± 1.05), 3.38 (± 1.28) and 2.05 (± 1.59), for the BOA and 3.23 (± 2.11), 4.29 (± 1.27), 4.43 (± 1.08), 4.11 (± 1.60) and 2.85 (± 2.13) for BOXC, with no statistical difference between groups for HCB-2. Conclusion: BOXC can be used for treatments of bone graft with horizontal gain on the buccal surface, as it presented similar results when compared to the gold standard (BOA).
